Who Sits on The Bahamas Bar Council?
 

All persons admitted to practice, other than persons specially admitted, form and are members of the Bahamas Bar Association.  Membership is mandatory, and open only to Bahamian nationals.  Persons of other nationalities may become registered associates.  The Bar Association, in accordance with section 6 of the Legal Profession Act, elects from among its members President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, who are the Officers of the Bar Association, to hold office for a term of two years each.  Elections are held in June of each year.  These officers combine with 5 other elected members of the Association and one members selected by the Attorney General after consultation with the Bar, to form the Bar Council, which carries out the day to day executive functions of governance set out in the Act.
